Michael Rathke holds both Bachelor and Masters degrees in Organ Performance from the University of South Dakota. He currently serves as Organist/Music Director at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City, South Dakota where he plays for services, directs multiple ensembles, and oversees the music program. The South Canyon choir helped lead a hymn festival at the SDACDA Mid-Winter Conference in 2014. Since 2011, Michael has served as Artistic Director of Bells of the Hills, a community handbell choir serving the Black Hills region. In addition, Michael teaches private piano and organ lessons, accompanies for Stevens High School, and is a frequent guest musician with the Dakota Choral Union. He holds the Colleague (CAGO) certification from the American Guild of Organists and is currently serving on the Regional Nominating Committee for AGO Region VI. He is also an active member of Handbell Musicians of America, American Choral Directors Association, Association of Lutheran Musicians, and the Black Hills Concert Association. His wife, Kjersten teaches K-5 Music in Rapid City and they have two young sons, Conor and Nathan.
