For those interested in the South Dakota choral music scene

Boychoirs; Children's and Community Youth

Matthew Baker received his degree in music from South Dakota State University in 2008. He spent the next five years in Rapid City, during which time he acquired his teaching certificate from Black Hills State University. While in Rapid City, he taught K-5 music at St. Elizabeth Seton Elementary, directed choirs at Trinity and Bethlehem Lutheran Churches, worked with the Rapid City Children's Chorus, offered private voice instruction, and performed with three vocal ensembles. Mr. Baker is now in his third year teaching JK-3 music for the Brookings School District.

In addition to his role as R&S chair, Mr. Baker has been called to serve the South Dakota choral community in several other ways. He presented a session at the 2011 SD-ACDA Summer Conference, has been the co-chair of facilities for that organization's Mid-Winter Conference, and is currently the mixed choir chair for Junior Honor Choir. He has been a judge for elementary and middle school vocal contests in the Black Hills region and was twice an audition judge for the SDMEA Elementary Honor Choir.

Matthew is the proud husband of fellow educator Pamela Baker.
